No two students are alike, but if you’re admitted and you qualify for financial aid, you will be awarded a package: some combination of scholarships (which do not have to be paid back), loans (which do), and work on campus (which, believe it or not, can be fun, and even educational). Determining financial need, cost of attendance, Student Aid Index (SAI), award letters and conditions—what’s it all mean?
Your award letter from ÌìÃÀÓ°ÒôÖ±²¥ will contain important information about the aid you are being offered. Please read it carefully and always keep a copy readily available for reference.
The initial Award letter notification will be mailed and an electronic copy will be posted to the student’s MyÌìÃÀÓ°ÒôÖ±²¥ account. After this initial paper copy has been generated and mailed, all subsequent Revised Award Letters will only be posted to the web.
Cost of Attendance — The Cost of Attendance at ÌìÃÀÓ°ÒôÖ±²¥ for the semesters reflected on the award letter, includes billable charges, like tuition, fees, and on-campus housing, and also includes the unbilled expenses that a typical student incurs while attending ÌìÃÀÓ°ÒôÖ±²¥. The Cost of Attendance represents the maximum amount of financial aid (including private scholarships and all types of loans) a student is eligible to receive during an academic year.
Net Price - The difference between the cost of attendance and all grants and scholarships reflected on your award letter.
Student Aid Index (SAI) — Your SAI is an index number that we use to determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive here at ÌìÃÀÓ°ÒôÖ±²¥. The information you report on your FAFSA is used to calculate your SAI.
Need — Your need, as defined by federal policy, is the difference between your cost of attendance and your SAI. It is not a reflection of your bill or the amount you will owe the College. This number is used to guide the Financial Aid Office in determining the amount of need-based aid you are eligible to receive. You cannot receive more need-based aid than the amount of need you see reflected. This includes subsidized loans, need-based grants, and Federal Work Study.
Award — Awards are listed by name on the award letter. Awards are also broken down by semester. If you have been awarded aid for a semester that you do not plan to be here, please notify our office immediately so an adjustment or correction can be made.
Accepting Award — Acceptance of all financial aid awards offered is assumed. If the student wishes to decline all or a portion of the aid offered, the student must complete the Financial Aid Change Form or contact the Financial Aid Office.
This is an estimated cost of attendance. Your out-of-pocket cost might be significantly less after your financial aid is determined.
